Why You Should Not Use Wix or Weebly As Your Website Builder and What You Should Use Instead

I despise website builders.

Ok, maybe that word is a little harsh, but I don’t like them. A lot of people use them because it’s easy to use and most can have a website up and running for free within a matter of 5 mins. The website builders I’m referring to are Wix, Weebly, Web.com and GoDaddy’s Website Builder. While convenient and cost-efficient, most websites look amateur and unprofessional.

Here are a 3 reasons why you should despise them, too.

1. It costs too much (for premium services)

Yes, Wix promotes that you can create your website because it’s free. I’m here to tell you that’s a damn lie. Sure, it’s free if you want it to say “This site was created using Wix.com…” at the bottom, but to get the most value of their services, the Popular Wix Package is $12.42/mo. By the way, $12.42/mo is actually too much to pay for Wix services (which isn’t that great). WordPress (.org) is free. You can pay for hosting at GoDaddy, which starts at $4/mo. That’s a lot cheaper than a Wix website.

Using Wix as a prime example, other websites builders like Weebly and Web.com also have their advertising banner at the bottom. Switch over to WordPress. It’ll make your life a lot easier and your online presence will look a lot more professional.

2. Doesn’t Look Good

I’ve seen very few websites built using builders that actually looked good and are impressive. People who use them are usually first starting their business and just need to get a website up. They’re not usually concerned with having a website that looks good, but the idea of having a website at all. I think it’s also safe to say that most are intimated by WordPress. Non-tech savvy folks think only developers and designers have the knowledge and expertise to use WordPress. NOT TRUE! There are several WordPress themes out there that are easy to use, even for the most non-techie person out there. And I’d much rather you use a WordPress template than one from a website builder.

3. Google rolls its eyes at your own website

Google and I are BFFs because our feelings for website builders are mutual. Most websites using Wix, Weebly, and Web.com do not rank well in search engines. Unless you hired a bad ass SEO (search engine optimization) professional, the likelihood of your website ranking #1 in search results is very unlikely. And if you can invest in SEO services, you can definitely hire a web designer instead.

Bottom line: Use WordPress for your website. Don’t have WordPress? Switch everything over.
